Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire

4.0

4 / 5 stars

This is one of the higher average rated books in this series and it's well deserved. Reading this further solidifies my love for Seanan McGuire's writing and her way with words. Honestly just go look at the quotes from this book, they're all stunning. Here's a favorite of mine though:

“She had tried to make sure they knew that there were a hundred, a thousand, a million different ways to be a girl, and that all of them were valid, and that neither of them was doing anything wrong.”

I absolutely loved being in the Moors. I love how the tone of this book took a dark and ominous turn compared to the more whimsical tone of Every Heart a Doorway. On top of that, Jack has been a stand out character to me and I loved getting to know more of her. One thing I didn't love was how her relationship with Alexis ended. But it seemed like Seanan McGuire left the possibility for
SpoilerAlexis to be resurrected when Jack and Jill return to the Moors.
I don't know if we'll ever get to see that on page, but I hope they get their happy ending one day.

And of course I still wish this was longer with more details, more of this world, and more of the characters and their stories.
