Into the Bloodred Woods by Martha Brockenbrough

3.0

Oh man I have a lot to say about this book. After finishing it, I’m really so-so about it. The premise is amazing. A conglomoration of re-written fairy tales, a kingdom torn in two, shapeshifters and magic. But the actuality was dark, really, really dark. I was very surprised because it was supposed to be YA, but it really didn’t read like it. The villain is downright evil. Not morally grey. Not “oh he’s bad but we love him anyways”. Downright evil. It’s actually really hard to read the chapters in his POV. This book had some good lines, the writing is descriptive and the characters are mostly pretty well rounded out. But I think there was just too much going on for it to be such a short book. Overall, I’m glad I didn’t stop in the middle because the ending helped it somewhat, If I had stopped where I wanted to stop it would have been a one star.
