FCBD 2019: Under the Moon Sample and Raven Preview by Gabriel Picolo, Kami Garcia, Lauren Myracle, Isaac Goodhart

4.0

DC Comics was really smart in selecting a sample of Under the Moon as one of their free comic books for Free Comic Book Day. I was not sure if I wanted to read Under the Moon based on the description, but the sample has convinced me.

Under the Moon smartly updates Selina Kyle's story for a contemporary American teenager. Be warned. Even the sample of this book is dark. There is domestic violence and the death of a kitten, which I found particularly upsetting and heinous. However, it fit the tone of what I think DC Comics should be. It's interesting to see that Lauren Myracle is the writer on this graphic novel. I'm really only familiar with her Internet Girls series, which is decidedly different in format and tone to this graphic novel. However, the sample seems to indicate she has a good grasp on Selina Kyle's story. Also, there seems like there might be a relationship between Selina and Bruce Wayne, which I am always for.

This sample makes me excited for the release of Under the Moon.
