Five Ghosts Volume 1: The Haunting of Fabian Gray by Frank J. Barbiere
3.0
I picked this up on a whim really. It looked interested and it was. There's nothing that stands out, though. It's an interesting idea, building a story around the collective unconsciousness that is responsible for storytelling and character archetypes being passed down from one society to another.
The characters aren't too compelling at this point. The standard scoundrel with a heart of gold and his sidekick. A random woman. A damsel in distress, etc. Good enough to start with at least. The art is gritty and fluctuates between kind of pretty and smudgy. It works for the tone of the book.
This is a good first volume. Enough of a little victory to start with, enough exposition to not be totally in the dark, and enough intrigue to start setting up the long game. I trust Image enough to check out the next volume.
