The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo

5.0

Adding to my favorites, this is so much more than I expected it to be and I got a bunch of history (50 percent folklore) to boot! It was dense with cultural explanations at first but after that unexpected separation between parts 1 and 2 of the book, I absolutely could not put it down. On top of rich descriptions of the Chinese culture, traditions, and a deliciously detailed setting of Malaysia during a time of cultural and religious exchange, you get a ghost story that is so surreal and still quite tangible. I can't say anymore without spoiling it, but risk this: if you feel yourself falling for the unexpected, just jump into its warm embrace, you will not regret it!!!
