I don't read a lot of middle grades/children's books because the pace/the details/the world building is usually a lot less compared to adult books. For a 400+ page book there was surprisingly less substance in the book. A lot happened in a chapter or two and then it became very sluggish. All in all, it was a good concept but lacked a lot of strong characters.

Having Anastazia and Quicksliver as strong characters a bit cheating as they were both the same person, IMO.
