Excellent, excellent book. I’m amazed at the variety of characters and detailed insight into their minds, as well as into their differing abilities. Blake is obviously a very empathetic writer and her range is inspiring. I highlighted many passages with lessons to remember- so many quotable sections. I didn’t love the ending but there’s more so I’m willing to withhold judgment until the end. I remember not liking the ending of one of the Hunger Games novels and loving how that series turned out and made sense in retrospect. Also this reminds me vaguely of The Library at Mount Char- simply for the fact that both books involve a small class of talented young people with different talents at a special school. Both are original, though this is better in my opinion.

On my second reading, I still really loved it and various in-depth look at the characters but it’s not assss amazing simply because it was not new like the first time. It (unlike many other books including those I very much enjoy) stuck in my mind so well that there weren’t surprises. A year later and I remember the details of a book I read once (among 120ish books I read in 2023)- amazing and unlike me. That just shows how memorable and awesome this book is. I love it! I want everyone to read it. I want to recommend it to my therapist as a case study of different personalities! Ha! It’s just worth it.
