Batman: Year 100 by Paul Pope

3.0

A few of the more ferocious looking panels are worth the price of admission alone but all in all this volume leaves far more questions than answers. Is this Batman Bruce Wayne? Sometimes you're convinced that it is when other times you're certain it can't be. Captain Gordon addresses him as Bruce Wayne but is that an alias as much as Batman is at this point. Who knows.

The world is fascinating because of the time jump and the dystopian aspects. We have a surveillance culture here and holograms and telepathy and a whole whack of very interesting things that just seem underused. It's fantastic seeing Batman, whoever he is, punching his way to justice in any timeline but with all these other elements in play this might as well have been Batman Year One rather than Year One Hundred.
