I think this is a very interesting old sci-fi book. It's obviously full of the author's perspectives on politics and current events when it was written, but sometimes it felt like Wolfe was just ranting and not really integrating his commentary into the story and letting it speak for itself. These rants are also just full of jargon that is exceptionally hard to read and actually decipher.
Otherwise, I think the actual world building and benchmarks of the plot are really interesting, and it had a lot more potential in these than what it turned out to be. It was also generally just very racist and sexist (and a rape scene) but there's an amount of that you expect from a scifi book from the 50s.
