The Hummingbirds' Gift: Wonder, Beauty, and Renewal on Wings by Sy Montgomery

hopeful informative inspiring

5.0

a quick, informative little read on hummingbirds and all their splendor.
the author takes readers with her as she spends a few days with a hummingbird rehabilitator in california. two baby hummingbirds, mere days old, have been taken into her care, and she is determined to nurse them back to health for re-release. but caring for baby hummers isn't easy. they're miniscule, delicate little things that require constant and careful attention. sy montgomery describes their strict feeding regimen, their bout with mites, and the structured "training" sandra (the rehabilitator) does to get the birds prepared for release.

endearing and insightful, i am glad this was my first book from sy montgomery, and i will definitely be picking up another. hummingbirds have always been my favorite, and the book reminded me of the times i've spent watching for hummers on my grandparents' back deck. :')
