Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

3.0

My rating is more like 3.5. I’m a bit torn with this one. While I think Katniss is such a compelling character and a great example of writing complex resourceful intelligent main heroine without falling into the perfect in all aspects, I did feel bored by this book at times. Since it’s POV is entirely katniss’s we really don’t get much insight into the “revolution” and we don’t really get good character development for the rest. Like Prim’s ending felt like nothing because we barely knew this person aside from what Katniss says about her. Sure, she appears more in this one but it’s still not enough to make you care.

I felt the ending a bit rushed and we definitely needed at least a page where she actually talks and chooses Peeta, because while it the ending and epilogue were nice, it really just felt like she ended with him because he was there, not because she loved him (even though throughout the books, I do feel she loved him in a way different way than she did Gale, who was friend zoned hard) but I get it, she’s 17 so it makes sense how undecided she is. I don’t know, it’s a good book but definitely made me want a bit more. It can feel a bit of an underwhelming ending.
