American Gods by Neil Gaiman

4.0

American Gods is an incredible book that takes the reader on a journey through America, from its roadside attractions to its tall mountains. The protagonist, Shadow, goes on a journey with his boss Wednesday after leaving prison, and is thrust into a war between the Old Gods and the New Gods.

The book starts out slow, but the final quarter of the book is a race to the finish line. The plot and premise are incredibly unique and original. The book twists old mythology into something new and original. Minor characters that you think don't matter show up later—everything is connected here.

My copy did have a few small spelling errors and sometimes words were squished together when they shouldn't have been, but I haven't experienced this in other Neil Gaiman books from the same publisher and edition so it's probably just my copy.

Overall, I really enjoyed this, but some of the beginning of the book could have been cut out.
