A Portrait of the Self as Nation: New and Selected Poems by Marilyn Chin

reflective medium-paced

3.75

Something about this book is tinged with sadness, almost a bit like Chin is a woman who is made to fit into this image of what the aapi diaspora is as much as she is pushed into the image of what chinese and american mean in opposition to each other. She seems to reach and try hoping that erudity will save her but in the end she gives so much of her soul to this want that every poem seems to leave you just a bit empty.
