All Because You Matter by Tami Charles

4.0

The narrator in this story explains to a young boy that he has always mattered – this book ties in directly with the Black Lives Matter movement and in many ways discusses these events without actually delving too deeply into them. The story talks about how this family planned for this child, but how his people have always mattered, and even if life becomes complicated there is one thing you must always remember: you matter.

I have been hoping that there are children’s books that would tie in with the Black Lives Matter movement – but this can be a tricky subject for youth to understand. This book touches upon the movement in its illustrations and mentions iconic names/events but at the same time, does not delve too deeply. It highlights that “you” matter. It says life is going to challenge this at times and you might not think it, but you do. While meant to target young black readers, this relates to other cultures/peoples and could be read and appreciated by all children.
