Mother, Come Home by Paul Hornschemeier

dark emotional sad tense medium-paced

4.0

This book is not a happy book. I didn't know much about this author until I read this for a Mercantile Library book club. He really hasn't done much else and there isn't a lot on the internet about him. This graphic novel explores his mother's death and his father's subsequent depression when he was a child. The drawings definitely play with grief and what it is to grieve as well as blurring the lines between reality and fantasy (and the fantasy worlds we retreat into when we are grieving or depressed). Overall, a good one for fans of graphic memoirs.
