I found this to be an almost drama-free, lovely little story about two very different men trying to find their place in a new relationship. It requires a huge suspension of disbelief in regards to Amory's 'work' and his weirdly 18th-century-English speech and mannerisms (he's definitely an American from this century) but if you can disregard that, it's a very sweet and enjoyable book.
