Nothing More to Tell by Karen M. McManus

OH MY GOD I CAN NOT EXPRESS HOW GOOD THIS IS

When I saw the cover, title, and synopsis, I knew I had to read it! I've been waiting for MONTHS and it finally came out today! I bought it and read it immediately, all I can say is IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT, DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

Brynn returns to her old hometown, and Saint Ambrose School to investigate the murder of her teacher four years ago. She reunites with her ex-best friend, and together they continue to dig deeper. But she gets more than she bargained for as she continues to unravel the case.

There will be some spoilers, but you'll see a warning when that part comes.

First, I LOVED the plot. It was super intriguing when I saw the synopsis, it pulled me in and I've been super excited ever since. The book is very well-written as always, and like before, there were plot twists, and I mean A LOT of plot twists, I wasn't expecting most of them. There was just so much going on at the end that my brain was reeling from the information I was consuming! I was questioning everyone by the book's last few chapters, but it was tied together nicely in the end and the pieces fit together. I would've liked to see what happened after the last chapter, but I think we could all guess what happened.

Secondly, the characters. I think the characters were okay, I wouldn't say the BEST, but they were pretty good, 7/10. The internal conflict of the two main characters was written VERY well. The side characters also added to the story a lot, I liked Mason and Ellie the most. I enjoyed the scenes where we got to see some playful banter between Brynn and her friends! There were so many people involved with the actual murder, and the things that led up to the murder, though, I really was just suspecting everyone.
Also, there's this one line from the book: "As much as I want to know what happened to Mr Larkin, it turns out there's a limit to how far I'll go." It's nice to see Brynn having some common sense [as much common sense murder mystery protagonists have, anyway] and realizing she's crossed a line.

Thirdly, the romance. This part contains some spoilers:
OH MY GOD. Tripp has been pining for Brynn for years, and I'm a MAJOR sucker for pining, so I liked this romance subplot a lot. I think they might've rushed into the relationship a little too fast, but it was still pretty good.
Shane and Charlotte felt a bit weird, I honestly don't think anyone would date a person who's been bugging them for years [I would know, I annoyed my crush for years and he hated me for it], I think it was realistic that they broke up at the end.

Here are my thoughts on the ending of the book,SPOILERS:
My heart fell when they found Mr. Solomon's box in Lisa Marie's closet, literally. I despise her so much, honestly, a total asshole.
When Ellie said 'My trap worked.', I thought, No way it was her??, but then it turned out she just came up with a genius plan. Then, Mason's hand had the powder on it, so I was like, That doesn't make sense, though, but after he explained everything, I just felt so bad for him. And then Nick was brought up, I went, I guess that makes sense, but WHAT I was just as relieved as Brynn when he explained himself. And that last part with Charlotte, I mean I knew she had something to do with the murder, but HOLY CRAP!
I'll be honest, it's my fault for being so gullible, and dumb, but that made the book such a rollercoaster and it had me on the edge of my seat.

-*This last part is a theory I'm sure people already know about, don't worry, this is spoiler free.

In the first chapter, a girl mentions the Story family, here's the quote “I’m obsessed with the Story case,” she says, and bam--she’s off. I’m impressed by all the rich detail she remembers from a show that aired more than a year ago. The Story case is a reference to the Story family in another Mc.Manus book, "The Cousins", I haven't read that yet, and I probably should.

Now, here's a quote from chapter 43: "Mikhail Powers Investigates? The Bayview Four? I could be the next Maeve Rojas." That was a reference to her most famous book "One of us is Lying".

My very obvious theory is that all her books are connected and "One of us is Back" [the third book to the "One of us-" series, coming out in 2023, is gonna address this. Not sure if it'll bring everyone together, I'm not sure how, but I'm like 10 times more excited for that book to come out now.

This last part was just a rant, and I'm pretty sure people have talked about it before, I just wanted to talk about it somewhere lmao-*

ANYWAY, I LOVED THIS BOOK, I 100% recommend this book! I hope you enjoy reading it!!
