A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

4.0

I liked this and will definitely read the next two in the series. I hope some things that annoyed me about this first book get worked out because I do love the story and world. Sometimes, Diana played into the I know everything and won't listen to anyone female in a fantasy novel trope, which annoyed me. I didn't love how possessive Matthew became and how he was like, We're married now, and Diana, after only knowing him for four weeks, was like, okay. And then zero spice?! She seems to lose herself when she "marries" Matthew. "You've known Matthew a few weeks. Yet you follow his order so easily, and you were willing to die for him...The Diana we've known all these years is gone." Hopefully, Diana finds herself in the following two books.
