The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram

4.0

I'm happy to have read this - an other of those books I bought for my daughter. She liked it a lot and I did, too. It proves that teen books don't have to be dull but they can be about realistic characters (take Angela Dorsey), or that they don't have to be grown-up sophisticated (take John Green).
The author knows how 17-yr-old girls and 19-yr-old boys react to certain things: how they feel, what they think, what they say. The parts in the story where it can be unbelievable, are very well explained. The most obvious example is: when Grayson falls in love with Avery. He states several times how he himself cannot believe he could fall in love because he's not that kind, and yet it happened because Avery is so different from any other girl... it's cute.
So yes, while the essence of the story is a cliché: a "bad boy" falls for a boring "good girl", the details are unique and the story is fun and the style is great.
It's a must-read for all teenagers (I think boys could relate too, because half of the book is written in a guy's POV) who want to have a nice, light read.
