Son of the Dawn by Sarah Rees Brennan, Cassandra Clare

4.0

2018 review:

queen of air and darkness comes out today, and i haven't read these novellas yet, so i'm trying to read them all before i start the book.

all the things i loved:

• sarah rees brennan’s writing! but mostly her humor. she’s my favourite of cassandra clare’s co-writers, and this would not have been as good as it was if it had had another writer.
• raphael santiago. i never get enough raphael.
• lily’s (terrible) nicknames for jem [ once you go Zachariah, you never go backariah - brother zacharide-him-like-a-bad-pony - oh no, brother hop-in-the-sack-ariah (hide spoiler)]
• jem!!!!
⁃ also i was CRYING every time jem mentioned will (not saying i WOULDN'T cry if he mentioned tessa but this was more about jem and will than jem and tessa) [“I carved his initials here because I always fought best with him.” (hide spoiler)]
• the beginning of the og shadowhunter trio; alec, isabelle, and jace.
• general lightwood + jace dynamics; maryse and robert being parents to jace, jace finally feeling loved and secure. i've never been emotional about jace before but here we are! this is all sarah rees brennan's fault.
