Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

CROOKED KINGDOM WILL BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVER.

I have no words for this book. It was beyond any of my expectation. It left me with a broken heart, happy smile, breathless, full of emotion, ocean of tears. I love the characters so much it hurts and makes me feel alive at the same time. The schemes were mind-blowing, the action jaw-dropping, the writing incredible as always. I just love this book so much, Crooked Kingdom was epic.

Now, unto the spoiler section!

I have so many thoughts, I think it’d better if I list them.

1)      WHAT THE HELL MATTHIAS. You should know that I doomed myself a few weeks ago by accidentally reading a spoiler that said Matthias will die in Crooked Kingdom. I was so mad with myself but well, there was nothing I could do. It still feels surreal that he’s gone. I mean the way it happened was surprisingly easy and after all he had been through, I think he deserved it. It doesn’t occur to me at first but when the rest of the crew said their goodbyes, THAT moment hit me. It made me realize what was happening and I cried. He was horrible but he turned into a brave, loving, and kind man. It was a terrible loss and I still can’t accept it.

2)      KAZ AND INEJ, oh my babies, one of my favorite OTPs, they totally deserved that ending. I was anxious that something bad will happen but I’m satisfied with how it ended. I just love them and I felt so emotional when Kaz bought Inej a ship and made a deal with Sturmhond to find her parents and brought them to Ketterdam. Oh, and THEY HELD HANDS! Aahh, I really love them for trying even though it was hard for both of them. IMO, this chapter was the most beautiful.

3)      Talking about Sturmhond, I KNEW IT. Right when some gentleman appeared with Genya and Zoya, I knew it was him. And I mean the real him. It was such a great surprise to see Nikolai here and now I miss him even more. I love the part when Kaz saw right through his mask and then they made a deal knowing each other’s true identity. Seeing Genya and Zoya meet with Nina was also interesting. All of them make me miss The Grisha Trilogy and added my anticipation on King of Scars!

4)      WYLAN MY BOY YOU WERE AMAZING. In my review of Six of Crows, I said that I wanted to know more of him in the next book and I’m happy when in Crooked Kingdom I got Wylan’s POV, his past, and his great character development. He was such a strong, brave and genius person.

5)      I LOVE JESPER AND HIS FATHER’S INTERACTION. Knowing that other characters’ parents are some unknown, one that was evil, and the other was lost contact, it was nice to see Jesper reunited with his father, Colm. Their little moments were so precious and I really respect Jesper for bravely admitted his mistake and made a promise to never do it again. I also like Colm, he was a kind and loving father. Unlike the other father that we are so familiar with.

6)      NINA ZENIK AND HER ARMY OF CORPSES. I really like how her power turned out because of the effect of parem. I didn’t expect it but I’m looking forward to how Nina’s new power will change things in the next Grishaverse books.

7)      That moment when Jesper mistook Kuwei for Wylan and kissed him and Wylan caught them. OH MY GOD I SHOULDN’T LAUGH BUT I DID.

8)      This point is basically just my questions. If you can help me, please comment and let’s discuss it. But please, no King of Scars spoiler. I HAVEN’T READ IT. What of the Shu and their flying Grisha? Who really is this Council of Tides?

I hope that cover all of it. If I left something, I’ll make sure to add it on the list.

Overall, I truly enjoyed and love Crooked Kingdom. I love everything in this book; the characters, the world, the story, every little thing of it was awesome. Reading this book has given me so much stressed and joy, brought me to tears and great laughter. I’m so glad and thankful for Leigh Bardugo, for writing such amazing duology. I heard that there will be another book for this series, I’M SO READY.
