Prentice Alvin by Orson Scott Card

There has been moments when you are halfway though a book and you've the plot figured out. And them there are moments where you have no idea what the author is planning. This is one such book.

We all knew It would be the story of one Alvin Miller. What I didn't expect was the number of people intricately bound to his tale. Or the fact that the author would cover 9 years of his life in one single book.

This is the book where Alvin becomes a man. This is the book where he falls in love. This is the book where he is finally a Maker. This is also the book where he murders. When you've an enemy who is immortal and held outside the tides of time, you're bound to have minions to serve him. And more often than not, they're bound to be someone you hold close to your heart.

As we watch young Alvin destined to walk the paths he was chosen for since his auspicious birth, we also get a glimpse of a world where he isn't the champion of good. So much lies on the shoulders of a young lad, a girl who loves him from afar and the common folk who are capable of doing deeds to protect their loved ones or their own interests.

We are halfway through his tale and we are still close to nowhere.
