The Second Spy by Jacqueline West

1.0

The extremely slow one where almost nothing new happens and plot points are repeated.

Spoiler Olive has apparently learned nothing from the past two books about trust and keeping secrets. Her character felt very shallow and poorly developed for how much time the reader spends with her and how few characters there are in the story. I liked Olive in the first novel, understood her in the second, and hated her in the third.

The story itself was very predictable and similar to the last book, making this a chore to read. Did Olive suffer from amnesia between the second and third books? Why else would she suddenly not trust the cats?

Though the language was still nice, it dwelled too long on descriptions of things that had already been explained. It just slowed down the story.

Also: Olive has suddenly and conveniently become a talented artist. Mrs. Dunwoody randomly becomes a normal parent who will watch movies with her child at the end of the story.
