The Flame Never Dies by Rachel Vincent

3.0

I didn't think this was as good as the first, but it did get better towards the end and it was pretty good overall. It picks up a few months after the last book, and the group is attempting the survive in the badlands. I really like the other members of the group, even though we don't really know that much about them. I liked finding out more about Finn and Maddock, and Pandemonia was really interesting, however I think it was neutralised far too quickly and easily.

But I started finding Nina really annoying. I know I don't have much of a heart, but I had a problem with how she was so desperate to help Mellie, no matter how much it was an inconvenience for anathema. Because the rest of group wanted to stay together as they are stronger, they basically ended up doing whatever Nina wanted. I especially hated how they joined a new group of people for Nina's ulterior motive. She also caused the group to fall into another trap, and I think she makes too many rash decisions which affect others and she doesn’t own up to her actions.
