The Changeover by Margaret Mahy

4.0

This was a childhood favorite, and I bought it yesterday in a fit of nostalgia. Is it as good as I remember? Not quite, but it was damn close. There are a couple of mildly sexist comments that I could have done without, but not so offensive that they ruined the story for me.

At it's heart, it's a book about a young girl finding the power she needs to save her younger brother. She grows up a little, she accepts the changes she needs to make, and she finds love along the way, and while the age difference is enough that my mother would have freaked if I had dated a guy that much older when I was that age, she handles it well.
