So, so, so close.
It lived up to Terrier in plot, characters, surprises, world consistency - I *really* enjoyed it!

But.

Pierce is so great at strong girl characters and I know some readers who really take inspiration from that.
There is a character who is revealed to be a woman in spirit with a usually-assigned-male body. Once the character is revealed, Pierce could have supported her trans-girl readers by using "she/her/hers" and acknowledging that spirit is more important than body. Instead, the character is misgendered throughout the rest of the book and I just weep for those poor girls reading *once again* that they can never be real, can never be accepted, can never be allowed to live in truth *and from an author whom they trusted.*

I am moved to strong language.
Pierce could have *saved lives*.
