None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marney

5.0

Emma Lewis, the only survivor from the Huxton serial killing case, is asked by FBI to team up with Travis Bell in a special unit interviewing convicted teenager serial killers. They're tasked to collect more undisclosed informations from the perpetrators in order to build more understanding and preparation on how to prevent another fallen victim. But worrying about cold cases will never be enough—with another active case of serial killing in the town done by the Butcher, they have to consult Simon Gutmunsson, a convicted teenager serial killer who seemed to know the Butcher well. And soon after, the team got caught up in a dangerous game between two blood-thirsty killers.

Whew. What a rollercoaster of a read.

At first, even though the pace of the book was quite fast, there's nothing much happened. But not for too long before everything started to make sense and it feels like 'omg omg it's going bad bad BAD'—because IT TOTALLY IS. I didn't even realize I was holding my breath for not being too loud while reading those parts. The suspense was extremely dense and nerve-racking.

The dynamics between the characters were superb. Lewis, Bell, and Cooper made a great team, Cooper being a dad figure to the two teenagers. The Gutmunsson Twins—Kristin with her own antics and Simon being Simon—served as great (indirect) additions. I know we should actually hate Simon for everything he did and everyone he killed, but Ellie Marney totally understand how to make an enigmatic villain.

This is one of my favorite reads this month. Can't wait for the sequel!
