Reading this book felt familiar and the reason I have only given this novel 4/5 stars and not 5/5 is because of how closely I have studied both the film blade runner & the Novel A Brave New World throughout high school.

Dick creates a believable world, a world in which our technology becomes so advanced one of the only ways in which to hold onto our humanity is by empathy. But this empathy is not what I would recognize as empathy, it is a version still connected to our humanity but it also stretched and manufactured. The remaining inhabitants of earth try to be seen as empathetic and caring to the few remaining animals remaining on earth that enterprises spring up dealing with realistic looking electric animals;so that the facade can be maintained.

The book essentially deals in what it means to be human and how we treat our planet, our creations and also those that we deem unworthy. This book created an atmosphere of weariness, both in its environs and its characters. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
