No doubt secret agent assassins appeal whether they’re male or female, and this didn’t fail me. However, I do like a bit of fun to my action spy thrillers, and this had none.

Leine Basso is capable, smart, and accurate, and this prequel to her ex-assassin status (published 4 years and 4 installments after the “first” book) tells the tragic tale of what made her quit her high stakes job. How that comes about is a devastating blow with a very unsatisfactory solution.

I think many would enjoy this series, but I’m on the fence about whether to continue, not because of the writing, but just because of the stark seriousness of the heavy baggage that comes with this kick ass protagonist.
