This was one of my favorites as a kid so I reread it and of course the writing is a bit simple, but the love I have for the characters beats the simplicity of the writing (which is obviously meant for younger audiences) anytime I read it.
The story is mostly lighthearted although it addresses family and friend issues as well as near
death of the main character.
