Very dense and full of details, the author attempts to show the variety of experiences that influenced LIncoln's career and the belief systems he would bring to the Presidency.
The War Years covers his presidential years and won Carl Sandburg the Pulitizer Prize in 1940. The War Years includes more than Lincoln's life but also explores information on the Confederacy, the politics that drove the slave holding states to succeed and the surrender at Appomattox.
