Torchwood: Trace Memory by David Llewellyn

3.0

An interesting premise that could have been a great story if tackled by a better writer. Unlike the abysmal [b: The Twilight Streets|2358689|The Twilight Streets (Torchwood, #6)|Gary Russell|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1360096670s/2358689.jpg|2365455], Trace Memory actually adhered fairly well to the standard episode format. There are some good IC moments from Ianto and Jack in particular. The author shouldn't have bothered with the Russian KGB element; it wasn't necessary and it just came across as clumsy. He should have either left it as Torchwood vs aliens or made it Torchwood vs the Russians, or written it much better and made the threeway struggle for capture of Michael believable and interesting. There are strong thematic parallels to Out of Time, To The Last Man and Captain Jack Harkness, but still, not an unpleasant read, all things considered.
