Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

5.0

Probably the best book I read in 2017, heart-wrenching, moving, and raw. Sepetys sugar coated nothing when it came to describing the violence and horrors, but did not need a huge amount of gore to make an impact. It was in what was said, and left unsaid, by the characters and those they met. She described things that, though would have actually happened then, were not necessarily thought about over the direct violence of WWII. I was sobbing for hours after finishing this book, and only a handful of books ever have managed to do that to me. Can't wait to pick up 'Between Shades of Grey'. Cannot recommend enough, especially to Historical Fiction lovers.
