The Emperor of Any Place by Tim Wynne-Jones

3.0

This book is a story within a story. I loved the book the main character read. I would have enjoyed reading it as a novella, though with a slightly more satisfying ending. For the main story to make sense and be worth reading, the novella had to conclude as it did, but I'd have preferred otherwise. I wasn't a fan of the overarching plot of the main story. It was dull, comparatively.

The inner novella is a page turner. The main plot had me putting the book down and away. Also, the major characters of the main plot were unlikable, which didn't help.
