Would Like to Meet by Rachel Winters

5.0

I loved this book to absolute pieces, and it was precisely what I needed right now.

The characters are awesome, especially Anette, who is possibly the most charming scene-stealer I've ever read about in a book. But I also loved every other character in the book, from Evie to her friends to NOB--not because I loved him, but because he was so well-drawn and vivid. This book does a great job of making all of these characters and their stakes feel real.

This book is laugh-out-loud funny. It has plenty of wonderfully absurd moments, the kind you see in basically every rom-com out there.

On the whole, this is both a send up of and a love letter to the rom-com. It perfectly blends all the popular rom-com tropes in its pages, yet feels fresh and fun. I'd love to see this on a big screen someday.

However, I think what I liked most about this is how it modernizes the genre. It's feminist in all the right ways. I absolutely loved what it had to say about the ways women have been trained to seek validation from men, and I loved its messages about consent and the way is deconstructed some of the more toxic moments in rom-coms.

If you're looking for something light, funny, utterly charming, and immensely satisfying, this is the book for you.
