The Association by Bentley Little

4.0

In The Association, Barry and Maureen move into a beautiful gated community with the HOA from hell. This book picks up right from the first chapter which is when the first gross thing happens. Like most of Little's books, it's mostly about human depravity with a tad bit of (maybe?) supernatural thrown in. There is blood and gore, but it's not overly descriptive and there's no gratuitous sex in this one. The writing is simple, yet effective. I could feel Barry and Maureen's anger and fear as the situation escalated. Many people say that Little's books follow the same formula, and they do, but it works and I will keep reading his books because I love the over the top campy horror contained in their pages. This is my fourth book by Little and I would say it's my second favorite, right behind The Mailman.
