In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens

I was initially going to rate this book as 3 stars but, I realized all my issues with this story were that it is a romance novel being a romance novel.

It has an interesting world and some engaging political intrigue but, the overarching plot felt a bit weak and the political drama was ultimately eclipsed by the romance. However, since the main point of this story is the romance and it’s clear that the writer didn’t set out to write about the political drama, the expected audience wouldn’t focus on that, and the reader probably wouldn’t particularly care about those issues than it feels disingenuous to focus on them.

So judging this as a romance novel it does it’s job well. The cast is really enjoyable (shoutout to Garrett and Shay who are the best), the chemistry is quite believable, and the writing style has a ton of charm. This is ultimately a fun read for when you need to unwind and while it doesn’t do anything exceptional it does everything that it needs to do well. For that I believe it earns 4 stars as a good beach read.
