Noisy Outlaws, Unfriendly Blobs, and Some Other Things . . .: That Aren't as Scary, Maybe, Depending on How You Feel about Lost Lands, Stray Cellphone by McSweeney's Books

2.0

I found it kind of hard to tell based on the cover and blurbs that this was a kids' book; it's an easy read. A few of the stories are OK. Grimble, Sunbird and Monster, for instance. Some of them are really terrible. Particularly Nick Hornby's story, Small Country, is really not great. A shame, given it sets the tone for the whole book. It's like Hornby started writing a short story, got bored and ended it before adding in half of what should be in it. Why bother making a point of how bad the small country thing is and how his mom is misusing her power and then just...not actually go anywhere with that??
