Six Four by Hideo Yokoyama

How to summarize this book... The main character is the lead press person for a police station. There was an old unsolved case 14 years ago, and the big police head honcho (?) wants to come back to the area to "pay tribute" to the case, but really
Spoilerit is a political grab to put one of his cronies in charge of the regional police station
. There were some nebulous subplots about how the main character's own daughter had gone missing and so this made him extra sensitive to the details of the unsolved case. This was referenced in the beginning of the book but then discussion of his daughter's disappearance dropped off the narrative in the middle to end of the book. The book was so long (500+ pages, 20+ hours on audiobook) for the plot line. There was a lot of politics of police? or the press? That I didn't totally follow or understand. Or really care about. I don't know. This may be a case where if I had been reading it instead of listening, I may have gotten more out of it. No matter, I am not going back.
Spoiler The book ends with another kidnapping very reminiscent of the case from 14 years ago, and the twist on that was satisfying and well done.
Otherwise I would say, it is fine. Rather long, but fine.
