How much control do we have over our own lives? The actions that we do as livings reflect the justice we will receive once we die? But most of all, what happens when we close our eyes for the last time?

The book has that typical Japanese literature feel. It started off slow, it presents you to its characters, structure and then boom. You’re hit with a wave of emotions and a feel of nostalgia for a place you haven’t even been before.

The book is divided into three stories, unified between each other’s. It’s more than just a memory lane down the lives of these people. It’s a reminder that kindness, even in its smallest ways, can change and shape someone’s life. From words, to actions, everything shapes who we are and how we affect others.

The novel manages to push the right buttons to make you cry when needed, ponder on why we exist and yet at the same time appreciate the fact that we do exist. That you’re alive. It’s raw, authentic and beautiful in its simplicity.
