Hearts, Fingers, and Other Things to Cross by Katie Finn

1.0

Wow. Okay. There are so many things I'd like to say about this book.

1. The characters are so damn dramatic. Besides all the revenge and petty relationship drama, I would like to start with the storm. They're all trapped in the same house during this hurricane and that act like complete imbeciles. For one, they lose their minds after they find out the power's gone out so *gasp* no Wi-Fi. Seriously, these people start going crazy. "Oh my Lord Jesus, I'm going to die because there's no Wi-Fi. Have you seen me without Wi-Fi, it's not pretty. OMG everything is dark and I'm scared, however will I survive during this horrific time." Now I'm not making light of a hurricane because I know they can be damaging-- but the storm in this book? FRICKING RAIN. That's it. There's a bit of rain and the electricity goes out. And they're all losing their goddamn minds, acting like they're going to DIE! My power has gone out plenty of times and I sure as hell never cowered like a wimp baby brat because there was no damn internet.
Now. Because people are freaking out over this storm, you'd think they'd stay in the house safe, right? Because they're so scared for their lives? Well sure. Until one idiot decides to go out and surf in the middle of this "oh-so-dangerous" storm. Do people actually do this crap? Act like it's normal to go out and surf in deadly waves during a hurricane? I mean I know there are some people out there that do this, but is it actually normal? Am I the only one with common sense here? (Clearly.) So Gemma runs after him into the face of some huge, waves where she's practically swallowed by them. Oh-- I'm sorry. Was I supposed to be impressed by this moment of bravery? I'm just shocked by the SHEER STUPIDITY displayed by these characters. And then he sees her getting washed away and he goes "Omg Gemma, why would you run out into water in the middle of a storm, that's dangerous when you don't know how to surf." Because knowing how to surf makes you invincible. K.

2. While I'm trying to get over the ridiculousness of people acting like they're going to die because of some rain, Gemma and Hallie decide to team up. And break apart their married parents.
Do these idiots learn nothing? All of their problems stem from Gemma breaking them up years ago, and it's like she's learned NOTHING. She's ruined people's lives and relationships and she was crying like she felt bad, but she was literally trying to do it all over again! I can't express just how disgusted I was. She doesn't want them to be married because she hates Hallie and kissed Josh. So because she wouldn't be happy being their step-sister, she needs to break them apart. She never stops to think about how maybe their parents are happy and in love. All she thinks about is her own damn selfishness. My mind was blown. And when she tells her friends of her plan, what do they do? "Oh, ummm, guys, I don't think that's a good idea. But as long as I'm not involved, okay."
....
.
For real? Get some good friends who will tell you that you're being a selfish bitch and put a stop to the nonsense. Seriously. What kinda friends...? After seeing the damage Gemma caused, how can they sit back and do nothing? Oh they "disapproved." Get off your ASS and actually do something besides shake your head.
There is a thing called character growth and not one character displays any. They make the same mistakes and decisions from book 1. And--
You know what? No.
I can't with this book. I'm not even going to write anymore.
