Wow this was am intense emotional read for me. It started as a rather slow burn but quickly turned into a nail biter of a book I could not put down. It got so intense so fast and I just needed to know what happened. The heroism of the main character was completely mind blowing to me, when she had nothing left to give, she still held on to hope. It was completely and utterly such a heartfelt story. It will definitely be one I recommend for years to come.

Kat goes to a cottage for a restful retreat, when she discovers her cancer has returned however it turns out to be anything but restful. Sara, Kats daughter drops off a dog on hervway to Florida, much to Kats dismay. Kat quickly discovers she's not as alone as she thinks when she meets some neighbors at cottages down the mountain. Malcolm and his adoptive son, Nirav have just returned to the states and while adapting to the states decided to come to the cottages. Scott and his 12 year old daughter Lily have taken some vacation at the other cottage. Kat finds a very injured puppy on a hike and her kindhearted soul is unable to leave it and takes it to the vet. On news that the puppy will be put down Kat decides to take it under her wing. Kat then decides to help Scott out by looking after Lily for the night so he can work, and she ends up inviting Nirav to have a sleepover too. The next morning everyone awakes to a forest fire and its emergency to either get off the mountain or try to save the children and the Kat. Scott and Malcolm can't get to Kat's cottage due to the fire taking out the bridge and begin on a crazy rescue with a helicopter. Kat relazing the impending danger they face with the fire, decides to leave the cottage with the children and dogs is search of safety. Kat does everything in her power to keep the children safe in hopes they'll be reunited with their parents. Finally after hours of treacherous mountainside conditions they find refuge in a pond, will this be enough to keep them safe? Will they be found before the fire becomes too much?
