Nothing To See Here is a heartwarming found family story. I loved reading this and getting to know all the central characters and their relationships. I especially loved Lillian as the narrator; she’s crass, funny, and so realistic. I can see myself in the way she talks, like when she said “I tried on a pair of satin pants and wanted to kill myself”, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
Even though this is a story about children who spontaneously burst into flames, it’s endearing and so believable. I want Roland and Bessie to receive all the love they deserve and I just wish the story was longer so that I could’ve read more about them growing up under Lillian’s care.
Graphic: Suicide, Fire/Fire injury, Classism, Injury/Injury detail, and Cursing
Moderate: Abandonment, Child abuse, Death of parent, Violence, and Toxic relationship
