Woahhhhh!! Reading this book is like a prolonged fever dream. What even happened? What didn’t happen? I don’t think there’s a way I could summarize this without missing a crucial piece of information. I feel like it’s also one of the longest books I’ve read in a while.
I liked this book significantly more than Norwegian Wood. Did I understand the central message as well? Probably not! But I don’t know, maybe the decrease in weird passages and descriptions of women combined with never knowing what would come next was what I needed to be kept on my toes. I liked the blend of past and present, reality and mysticism, I feel like it was fascinating. Don’t ask me what this book is about though I could never explain it. Here are my favourite quotes I think:
Fact may not be truth, and truth may not be factual.
“Reality spilled out into the alley like water from an overfilled bowl — as sound, as smell, as image, as plea, as response.”
