Cat in an Alphabet Soup by Carole Nelson Douglas

3.0

Nice solid mystery with solid characters. Combines a bit of the cozy in the person of Temple Barr, PR person for the Las Vegas Convention Center and a bit of the noir in Midnight Louie a streetwise cat-about-town who is an old pro in Sin City. I enjoyed the discussion of the landaldy Electra and her wedding chapel "peopled" with soft form dummies dressed for the occasion to make the weddings seem warmer. I thought the mystery was rather well-done, although she seemed slow about understanding the significance of the murder weapon once she knew about the victim's past. And I am not complete sure I grasp the nature of the mutual antagonism between Temple and C.R. Molina, police detective. All in all, it was an interesting read and I would read others in the series if they came my way, although I might not make a huge effort to seek them out given all of the other books on Mt. TBR.
