Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
by Hunter S. Thompson
A necessary insight into the death of 60s culture and the birth of the 70s and beyond. Necessary, but not necessarily interesting. Drug writing is only so interesting, and without a narrative, even less so. These episodic adventures are at times funny and engaging, but overall I struggled to get through the book and couldn't help but feel the whole thing is very overrated. A more insightful and entertaining look at drug culture can be found in Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.
Not sure of I'll read much more of Thompson again. He lacks a strong voice, probably due to the drugs. 2.5/5 stars
