Hiroshima Boy by Naomi Hirahara

I was intrigued by Patrick Sherriff’s review and decided to read this, although I knew it was the seventh and last book in a series. I absolutely loved it. It’s a mystery, but a rather quiet one and, for me at least, the mystery plot wasn’t what held my interest. I just love the writing and the gentle octogenarian amateur sleuth, Mas Arai. How delightful to see an 86-year-old as the star character. And he is such a great character, both irascible and lovable. I plan to start at the beginning and read the rest of the series in order.
