Pepper's Rules for Secret Sleuthing by Briana McDonald

Did not finish book. Stopped at 7%.
This was cute and seemed like an exciting mystery with young queer rep. Despite the "middle-grade" label and sweet cover, it is NOT for elementary school kids--it's a murder mystery in which a close relative was killed violently and (I skipped ahead)
another close relative violently attacks the child protagonist.

Two other things that bothered me--1) the heroine has a tragic mom backstory that is pure copaganda; 2) the heroine is constantly describing her appearance in a way that is not psychologically realistic and would never fly for a male character (e.g. she is anxiously running on freckled legs).
