I was so intrigued by booktuber's review of this book, a mystery unfolding in just mixed media documents. How does an author build characters and a plot through emails and texts? I was intrigued! I also love books on cults.

Through emails, text messages, transcribed interviews, book excerpts, film scripts, and news articles a story is unfolded on the Alperton Angles case. We follow two authors who are researching for their own nonfiction books on the case looking for new leads. They conduct interviews, solicit information and go seeking for clarity through this new release from Janice Hallett.

This was easiest to consume physically reading but I enjoyed doing a tandem read with the audiobook. There are multiple narrators who do different voices. I would have been confused just listening to the audio because the characters go back and forth without detailing who is always talking.

There were a lot of characters to learn about, but over the course of reading the book I was so surprised how the author was able to build their personalities just through text messages. I loved the insert of the assistants notes during the interviews. I liked the mystery unfolding and was very intrigued.

This was an easy read, that is unique in its' storytelling for a mystery book, so check it out!
