Resurrection Of Johnny Cash: Hurt, redemption, and American Recordings by Graeme Thomson
5.0
An excellent look at the series of albums that rebuilt the reputation of Johnny Cash just as they documented his physical decline.
Thomson looks at the travails of Cash's career that led him to Rick Rubin. Needless to say, the story is more complex and nuanced than the legend would suggest. Excellent interviews with those closely involved with Cash (including family members) add real depth.
It places all of the released albums in context and, more importantly, sends you back to listen again.
